1. Place in the peer review process: Bahnstadt Heidelberg W 5.2 “Living on the Promenade”

The Bahnstadt Heidelberg is the key component of a positive inhabitant development for Heidelberg.

According to a lasting urban development a lively town quarter with an identity of its own will arise. The modern mixture of living, research, work and leisure time guarantees a high appeal and provides attractive offers for science and research, combined with high quality of living about affordable, attractive living space for families.

A special aspect of our draft as a wish of the principal is to create a wide variety of living forms. Despite this variability a general concept for the complete quarter has turned out well. The generous open space concept offers a high recreational value and with that a positive balance for life quality.

Tenders of the peer review process are: LBBW Immobilien Development GmbH / DIH Deutsche Wohnwerte / OPTIMAL Wohnbau

International Challenge:
German Business Park Dubai

In the beginning of July of 2007, it was announced that Fischer Architects had won the contest for the construction the German Business Park FZCO in Dubai.
The proposal that led Fischer Architects to secure the contract to build upon the 90,000m² gross surface area was not the typical ensemble construction suggested by other renowned architects but was rather a massive architectural sculpture that would serve as an iconic metaphor for the maxim: “One World Business.”
The design features an immense and broad base, three stories tall, which is bordered by two attenuated wings. Dynamism and regal elegance come together in a building of imposing aesthetic stature.
The proposed roof garden atop the base is designated as the central communication area of the complex.
The project aspires to establish an architectural benchmark in terms of design, technology, innovative energy solutions and office efficiency in Dubai that represents the highest in German culture and technological achievements, and to strengthen commercial relations between the United Arab Emirates and Germany. Building commences in the first quarter of 2008.

Implementation Waidmarkt Cologne

Fischer Architects, together with the offices of Bieling Architects from Kassel, have together implemented the construction of a new urban quarter on the Waidmarkt in Cologne. The client for this project was the investor group Fay of Mannheim. The completion of this building complex with a total of ca. 43,000m³ gross surface area and an underground garage with two levels is scheduled for the end of 2009.
The new development employs a precise architectural language to reorganize and inscribe the historically significant Waidmarkt, which is located adjacent to an important crossroad: Tel-Aviv Street and Blaubach. A cladded construction with a hotel, office space and shops it is the very definition of a city center. Within the rebuilt section, five tenement buildings rise to create a new urban space. An expansion of the adjacent Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium completes the ensemble.

Fischer Architects is 40!

On 10 November 2006, Fischer Architects celebrated its 40th year in the profession. We are very proud that 40 eventful years are behind us. In the last few years, especially, a lot has transpired: enlisting Claus Fischer, moving the office to Mannheim as well as the construction of a second office in Cologne in 2003.

We look back upon 40 successful years of cooperation with numerous clients and partners. For their trust we would like to use this opportunity to formally thank them. We look forward to a positive future with many challenges and are glad to take them on and to continue to design attractive architecture.

The year 2006 is significant for Fischer Architects for another transitional event: senior partner and founder, Cornelius Fischer, who, after 70 years of active service with Fischer Architects, retired. We’d also like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude for his support over the last years.

As of the first of January, 2006, under the leadership of Claus Fischer, the office has been rechartered as Fischer Architects, GmbH and with that a second generation recognizes and continues the success of the last 40 years.

New Dormitory in Mannheim

A dormitory for 174 students was built in May of this year at Technology Park EASTSITE. This follows the Media and Communications Center and the Chancellery Rittershaus as another milestone for Fischer Architects. It makes the transition from the growing suburb of Neuostheim to the future Campus axis. The three-story curvilinear building was built entirely out of wood and counts as the biggest of its kind in the region.

The Student Association of Mannheim plans to use this building especially for the foreign exchange students from top universities who are looking for temporary housing. Furthermore, guest lecturers from partner universities seeking adequate short to midterm lodgings should be accommodated.

Clarenbach Gardens – Living in Cologne

Over 100 premium apartments will be available on the grounds of the former German Medical Association in the Cologne suburb of Lindenthal. In a green oasis on the Clarenbach canal, apartments are being appointed with exceptional luxury features.
Individual housing units, placed atop plinths offer their occupants uncommon quiet, fresh air, natural lighting and panoramic vistas not least of which is an unobstructed view of the Kölner Dom.
One particular nicety is the so-called roof garden which connects the houses and at the same time offers the occupants an expansive terrace of greenery.

Riwwerside

As the press and television have already announced:
After the summer of 2006, a ferry will again cross the Rhein and bring Mannheim and Ludwigshafen one piece closer together.
On the “Waterhole” at Rhein kilometer 424, Fischer Architects are building a ferry house with fine cuisine, lounges and a sun deck. In the second building phase up to the 2007 City Jubilee, two bathing boats (converted barges fitted with swimming pool hygiene systems) will be anchored in place, one in the linkage canal on the Mannheim side and one in Luitpoldhafen on the Ludwigshafen side.
